Jalan Silk or Silk Road is a trade route between Asia and Europe which lasts for more than 2000 years.
Jalan Sutera began its history in 206 BC, when the Han Dynasty in China began to open a trade route with Central and Western Asia.
The name of Jalan Sutera comes from silk trade which is one of the main commodities traded.
Besides silk, other commodities traded through the silk road include spices, tea, horses, precious stones, and other luxury items.
Trading through the Silk Road brings wealth and progress to many cities along the path, such as Samarkand, Bukhara, and Kashgar.
Jalan Silk is also an important path for the spread of religion, culture, and technology, such as Buddhism, Islam, and Paper found by the Han Dynasty.
The presence of Jalan Silk also allows a mixture of Eastern and Western cultures, and produces unique arts and architecture, such as the ID KAH mosque in Kashgar.
Jalan Sutera is also an important path for trade and diplomatic missions. One of the famous diplomatic missions is Zhang Qian's mission to Central Asia in the 2nd century BC.
Jalan Silk became important during the Middle Ages, but eventually became unused after the discovery of the New Sea route in the 15th century.
In 2014, Jalan Sutera was declared a UNESCO world heritage site, acknowledged the importance of this trade route in world history.
